6月2號當我還沉浸在洋基以9:1擊敗金鶯的喜悅中
兩項頭條已經悄悄發生
第一 是我從電視轉播的bottom line得知Ken Griffey Jr. 宣布退休的消息
第二 則是每家電視台強力放送的超級頭條- Galarraga's near-perfect game
在當天老虎跟印地安人的比賽中
老虎的先發投手Armando Galarraga perfect的表現(0安打 0保送, 26上26下)一直到9局下 2out
眼看印地安人打者Jason Donald一二壘間的滾地球被Cabrera擋下 投往在一壘補位的Galarraga解決這最後一人次
準備成為這球季的第三場(先是Dallas Braden, 和一星期前的Roy Halladay)
不管是球迷還是球員已經準備要為這歷史性的一刻歡呼
沒想到一壘審Jim Joyce卻平舉雙手改寫了歷史..
對Jim Joyce的判決 Galarraga只能無奈的笑了
Donald安全上到一壘 是支一壘安打
Galarraga只好回到投手丘上繼續完成他的工作
在解決下一位打者後 老虎以3:0打敗印地安人
Galarraga九局只用了88顆球 比賽也只花了1小時44分鐘
經過電視轉播的replay
"Yes, it was a mistake."
當Galarraga接球時 他的腳的確在一壘壘包上 而Donald還沒踩過壘包
就這樣一個誤判 Galarraga錯失了一場完全比賽..
"I had a great angle, and I missed the call."
賽後Joyce立即看了重播畫面知道自己誤判害了一場完全比賽
接受電話採訪時也聽得出他的哽咽
在接受Joyce道歉後 Galarraga這樣說道:
"He understands. I give him a lot of credit for coming in and saying, 'Hey, I need to talk to you to say I'm sorry.' That doesn't happen. You don't see an umpire after the game come out and say, 'Hey, let me tell you I'm sorry.' He apologized to me and he felt really bad. He didn't even shower. He was in the same clothes. He gave me a couple hugs.
"I know nobody's perfect. What are you going to do? I was mad in the moment because I was nervous. I didn't know what to do. I was like celebrating. Then I looked at him."
在隔天6月3號比賽前
老虎總教練特地安排讓Galarraga把攻守名單拿給裁判團
為的就是要讓Galarraga和Joyce再有機會握手
他們的運動家精神讓現場球迷的掌聲響起
大聯盟執行長Selig 則是宣布將不會改判
畢竟誤判也是比賽的一部份
但將會考慮擴大replay的使用
我真的很欣賞Galarraga的風度
雖然將不會被記錄
不過我們都知道 這是一場Perfect game
A 28 outs perfect game:)
Galarraga的紳士風度和near perfect的比賽 讓贊助的廠商送他一台車做為補償
